The Bayou Ver-million Dollar Question
By Hayward Heston, editor of the Brimstone Bee
Brimstone was abuzz with activity last week after a reportedly runaway train belonging to Bayou Vermilion was hurtling toward the town with no way to stop it. Members of the Territorial Rangers and the Explorer’s Society were seen mustering forces to stop the train, and were reportedly successful in halting it just five miles from the city. Rumors are rife that the train’s trajectory was no accident, as two weeks ago the train depot belonging to Bayou Vermilion in El Paso, Texas was destroyed. It was suspected that Captain August Leighton, leader of the local chapter of the Explorer’s Society, was somehow responsible for the crime and this was to be retribution. According to those familiar with the incident, the train had several incendiary devices aboard. Representatives from Bayou Vermilion have denied these rumors. It is known, however, that local leadership of the Territorial Rangers met with Bayou Vermilion and were able to come to some kind of accord as there has been no further threat to the town. Captain Leighton has not been seen locally since the incident.
