Quinn Nazene
Quinn Nazene was born as Quincy Riddle in what would become the Commonwealth of California on September 12th, 1857. 4th child out of 7 total. 3 daughters and 5 sons.
Living on the coast of California, most of her early live wasn't very eventful. Fish was plentiful and things were peace.
She was 11 when the great quake occurred. During the aftermath, Quinn lost her mother and one of her older brothers. Food was then difficult to aquire even with help of her remaining siblings. Fights often broke out between said siblings due the lack of food and how often it spoiled despite their attempts to make it last. Due to starvation, 3 of her younger siblings died (2 sons and a daughter).
During a fishing trip when she was 15, she went out on a small fishing boat of her own making along with a homemade retractable net, a brewing storm created a large wave that capsized her boat, destroying it against some rocks. Quinn had never been a strong swimmer even with lessons. But being one of the only remaining siblings that could fish with some measure of success, she'd gone out alone. She kicked and flailed trying to stay above the waves but they only grew stronger, a riptide pulling her out of the small fishing area she frequented. Her eyes, open under the water despite the burning salt, could see only the deep blue void of the ocean. Quinn could swear she could see SOMETHING large in the deep darkness. It only made her flail and struggle more in terror. Eventually her world went black as she could no longer hold her breath.
Quinn found herself waking up in a cot in a boat. Turned out she was lucky. A traveling vessel had spotted her drowning from a ways out and came to her rescue. It turned out the ship was a crew of new scientists tracking a maze dragon. Quinn was fascinated by the small gadgets to the weapons mounted on the boat. The crew was friendly and had found her retractable net floating in the sea, complimenting on the idea and potential of the build. They remarked she had potential. To which she replied that she'd love to learn more if possible. She would probably be thought dead by her family and she was fine with that. Quinn wanted to leave and have a better life AWAY from water. And that meant travelling inland.
The crew was happy to bringing her into their crew and teaching her the rudimentary tricks of engineering. It turned out they were actually new scientists under the employ of Hellstromme Industries to scope out the Maze. One of them was an older woman Sandra Nazene who gladly took Quinn under her wing, adopting her under the story of being an orphan.
Quinn was enrolled in a proper school in Deseret, while a religious school, it helped teach her better basics and grow her talents. As she grew up, Quinn flourished, aside from a crippling fear of open water. It was good that most of the land near her now home didn't have rivers or large lakes.
At the age of 21, she was accepted into an internship under Hellstromme Industries much to her adoptive mother and Quinn's delight.
She enjoyed the tinkering and not sticking to one "theme". Even working under Hellstromme Industries, she wasn't as loyal as others. Actively reading science journals from individual inventors to even Smith & Robards.
At the age of 24 some point Quinn noticed strangeness in writings from S&R.
She took these strange supposedly typos and eventually to her surprise, found that she could conjure items from scrap. While it was terrifying to experience an otherworldy presence, to her it wasn't any worse than almost drowning in the ocean as a child. Since Quinn felt she couldn't explore this new strange power she found under the eyes of Hellstromme Industries, she researched into it in her spare time, learning more of the occult. Which fascinated her despite the danger.
At the age of 26, Quinn left Hellstromme Industries with gadgets of her own making under less than good terms. She had still been under contract when a mishap in her workspace while working on a poison gas for the rail wars using her thaumaturgical abilities. She was fine but the gas seeped through doors to make other employees very ill. When she realized what was happening she ran from her career at Hellstromme Industries and travelled south from Utah. Quinn came upon Brimstone, learning of its status as a boomtown.
